Ex-prime minister Raila Odinga, who lost the presidential election on August 9 for the sixth time, is the center of attention (his first attempt was in 1997, and subsequent ones were in 2007, 2013, and 2017).
Many believe that Raila will retire from active politics, allowing one of his closest friends to head the ODM party while he acts as a mentor and counselor to the party's future leaders.
Eric Ragalo, a political specialist, predicts that Raila will run for president again in 2027. According to Ragalo, Raila's success would depend on the ability of President-elect William Ruto and his administration to implement their strategy. Raila's triumph may depend on whether or not President-elect William Ruto and his team follow their promises.
Ragalo continued by explaining that misinformation about Raila has been circulating for at least twenty to thirty years, which explains why he is unpopular in the Mount Kenya Region. He has been unable to overcome these obstacles despite having a native running partner, Martha Karua, the assistance of the Mt. Kenya Foundation, and the consent of President Uhuru Kenyatta. Raila may run for office as many times as he wishes, but ultimately it is up to the voters of Kenya to decide whether or not they want him to win. Even with Raila in the race, the younger politicians will continue to compete for office. The effects of propaganda from more than two decades ago are still visible on Raila, despite his best efforts to the contrary.
In the final months before the elections, it was difficult to accept the story because "the folks from Mt. Kenya and who arrived the other day saying that Raila was the best man were the same individuals who had previously said the contrary," he said. "I warn Kenyans that Raila will return in 2027 as the same person we've always known him to be, and he may one day become Ruto's opponent,"
