Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala got a variety of responses from Kenyans and supporters of President-elect William Ruto after his public declaration of his intention to assist the next government.
Balala indicated an interest in participating in Ruto's administration on Friday, September 9, and that he was eager to serve in any role. "I am thrilled and humbled, and I am grateful to President Uhuru Kenyatta for the opportunity to serve my country; I welcome President Ruto, and I am ready to serve in his administration at any time," he said.
Ruto's staunch admirer, Kapsaret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi, and lawyer Miguna Miguna accused him of switching allegiances in response to his words. In response to Balala, Sudi shared an old video of a CS condemning the Kenya Kwanza team, led by Ruto, for slamming CSs for campaigning. The video was captioned by Sudi with "Let us not forget."
"My buddy Balala, you are not the only Kenyan-born cabinet secretary for tourism. You have held this post for almost fifteen years. That's it. Continue on your way. Retire. Find something to do. On the other side, numerous Kenyans complimented the CS for declaring his desire to collaborate with the next government.
"I like this man very much. His loyalty is with the government, not political parties. He has the ability to flourish in any situation. Bernard Otieno states that he is focused on his job.
A subset of internet users praised him for assaulting the four commissioners of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), headed by vice chairwoman Juliana Cherera, for their disagreement with the August 15 presidential results.
Notably, Balala was the first Cabinet Secretary in President Kenyatta's government to congratulate Ruto on his election victory.
Uhuru appointed Balala to the Administration in 2013, and he served for two years in the Jubilee cabinet.
